1) Ma Long (China)
Considered by many as the greatest Table Tennis player of modern times, Ma Long is one of the very few players to literally 'win it all' in the sport. Apart from his whopping five Olympic gold medals and 13 World Championship golds, LOng has several impressive records in the sport.
The 34-year-old captain of the Chinese Table Tennis Team was the world No.1 for a record 64 months. He also won a record 28 ITTF World Tour Championships.
His other accolades include being only the fifth player to win a grand slam (an Olympic, World Championship, and World Cup gold), winning nine golds and five other medals in the ITTF World Cup, five golds and a bronze at the Asian Games, seven ITTF World Tour Grand Finals wins, four Asian Cup wins and a staggering 15 Asian Championship wins.
2) Deng Yaping (China)
Deng Yaping is considered by many as the greatest female Table Tennis player of all time. A World No.1 for eight consecutive years, Deng, at the time of her retirement, had won the most Table Tennis titles by any player.
Named China's athlete of the 20th century, Deng won four Olympic gold medals and nine World Championship medals.
Deng Yaping has also won the ITTF World Cup five times and has won three golds and a silver at the Asian Championships.
3) Wang Liqin (China)
Wang Liqin was not only an all-time great Table Tennis player, but he has also played a big role in China's continuous success in the sport as a coach. Here are more about who are the greatest Table Tennis Players 2023?
One of the best Table Tennis players of the 2000s, Wang won two Olympic golds and two bronzes in his time. He also won 11 World Championship gold, four silver, and five bronze medals at the World Championships. The 45-year-old also won three golds, a silver, and four bronzes at the ITTF World Cup, and won four golds and two bronzes at the Asian Games.
4) Jan-Ove Waldner (Sweden)
The best non-Chinese Table Tennis player of his era, and maybe the best non-Asian in the sport of all time, Jan-Ove Waldner was a beloved figure in the World of TT.
The now 57-year-old won the Olympic gold medal in the Singles competition in 1992. He also won a silver in the year 2000.
The man known as 'Old Wa' in China also won six golds, seven silvers, and three bronzes at the World Championships. He also won two gold, four silver, and a bronze medal at the ITTF World Cup, and 11 golds, five silvers, and five bronzes at the European Championships.
5) Liu Guoliang (China)
The other Table Tennis great of the 1990s, Liu Guoliang was only the second player to complete the Grand Slam in Table Tennis. He is currently the Chairman of the Chinese Table Tennis Association.
Liu won two gold, a silver, and a bronze medal in his Olympic career. He is also a seven-time World Champion while winning four silvers and two bronzes in the competition. He also won a gold and a bronze at the World Cup.
