The Family Reunification Visa enables non-EU family members to join their loved ones living in the Netherlands. Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for a Family Reunification Visa, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Eligible Sponsor:

   • Your family member in the Netherlands (the sponsor) must be a Dutch citizen, an EU/EEA citizen, or a non-EU national holding a valid residence permit.

2. Eligible Relationships:

   • Spouse or registered partner

   • Unmarried partner in a long-term relationship

   • Minor children under 18 years

   • Adult children or other relatives who are financially or physically dependent on the sponsor

3. Financial Requirements:

   • The sponsor must have sufficient and stable income to support the family member(s). The income threshold is based on the Dutch minimum wage.

4. Adequate Housing:

   • The sponsor must provide proof of adequate accommodation that meets Dutch housing standards.

5. Health Insurance:

   • The applicant must have valid health insurance upon arrival in the Netherlands.

Application Process

1. Prepare the Documents:

   • Valid passports for both the applicant and sponsor

   • Proof of relationship (e.g., marriage certificate, birth certificate, or evidence of cohabitation for unmarried partners)

   • Sponsor’s residence permit or proof of Dutch/EU citizenship

   • Evidence of sufficient income and housing

2. Submit the Application:

   • The application is submitted to the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).

   • Pay the application fee (€207 as of 2024).

3. Attend an IND Appointment:

   • The applicant may need to provide biometric data (photo and fingerprints).

4. Decision Timeline:

   • The IND processes family reunification applications within 90 days.

5. Collect the Residence Permit:

   • Once approved, the applicant can collect their residence permit upon arrival in the Netherlands.
